The celebrated guest of Anima Musicae Chamber Orchestra concert in December is cellist Csaba Onczay. The prestigious event will feature pieces by Vivaldi, Haydn, Bruch, Weiner and Sollima.Acclaimed concerts in halls on three continents have made Csaba Onczay one of the leading csellists of his generation. In 1993, he was awarded the the Kossuth Prize in recognition of his national and international success. To this day, he performs as a soloist in major concert halls of Europe, America and the Far East, previously he had great success with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the RAI Orchestra and several US orchestras. Two of the most important prizes among numerous international competitions include two first prizes: the Pablo Casals International Cello Competition in Budapest (1973) and the Rio Villa Lobos Competition (1976). He won the Liszt Prize in 1976 for an oustanding interpretation of Kodály's Solo Sonata. His achievements in his artistic and performing career include the 1986 Artist of Merit prize, and in 2004 the Bartók-Pásztory Prize, has received the Artisjus Performer Award several times.For the concert he is joined by frequent chamber music partner harpist Andrea Vigh and his son, cellist Zoltan Onczay with whom he performes Sollima's exciting piece.
