The Corelli Consort has been playing together in this new lineup for almost a year and half. A particularly attractive aspect of Baroque music for the artists is the freedom, creativity and limitless opportunities for virtuosity it provides. The concert opens with one of the most exciting pieces of the era, played in its entirety. 17-18th century French music history was overshadowed by the fear that Italian musical taste would take over the French. Francois Couperint - who critics of the era considered a servant of Italian tastes - by his own admission was encouraged by Italian sonatas to write his first pieces, which  "did not cause any damage" in either his or Lully's art. In the irony-laced penultimate movement of L'Apothéose De Lully (Aria for two Violins), the main theme is alternatley played by Lully with Corelli's accompaniment, or vice versa. At the end of the work we reach the peace agreement on the Parnassus.
